Playlee vs Spond
Spond is a good team app. Here's the honest comparison.
We'd rather you compare properly than take our word for it — including the part where Spond's transaction fee is lower than ours. Both sets of numbers, in pence, are below.
The fees, in pence
Spond's published UK rate is 2.5% + 20p per transaction, Stripe included, with free club software. Ours is 3.25% + 20p, also all-in, also with free software. On a £30 monthly sub that's 23p more per payment with Playlee. We're not going to hide that — the question is what those pennies buy.
Spond figures from Spond's public help centre, checked 26 July 2026 — always confirm current rates with them.
On a £30 monthly sub, the club receives
- With Spond (2.5% + 20p)
- £29.05
- With Playlee (3.25% + 20p)
- £28.82
Both all-in, card processing included. Our side is computed by the same code that runs our billing.
What the difference buys
Spond is a general-purpose group app — brilliant for organising almost any activity. Playlee Clubs is built for one thing: UK grassroots football clubs. That focus shows up in the parts of club life a generic tool doesn't reach:
A live matchday console
Format and formation per match, drag-and-drop subs, fair playing minutes on every shirt, and a live match centre for parents. Attendance apps stop at “who's coming”.
A club-grade registration and safeguarding record
Photo and ID collection, identity-gated reveals of child data, team age/gender eligibility checked automatically, DBS and safeguarding records tracked for the committee.
Treasury, not just collection
Signing-on fees that confirm a place, arrears drill-downs, per-player payment history across seasons, daily payouts — the whole money story, not a payment button.
Migration done for you
We import your members, teams, guardians and fee plans before you commit — and nothing reaches a parent until you approve it.
If all you need is availability and a payment button, Spond will serve you well. If you're running a junior football club — registrations, eligibility, safeguarding, matchday — that's the job we built for.
