Group matches use the round-robin circle method, so every team in a group plays every other team once: n teams play n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 matches. Groups progress together, round by round.
The schedule fills every field in each time slot, never puts a team in two matches at once and, if you ask it to, gives every team a free slot between games wherever the fields allow. Knockout matches start only once the group stage is over, and each round only after the matches that feed it.
The plan is a starting point. Read it one team at a time and one field at a time, and adjust for referee breaks, fields that suit particular age groups, lunch and the presentation. The formats guide and the step-by-step tournament guide explain the choices.
n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 for n teams: 6 for four teams, 10 for five, 15 for six and 28 for eight.
Divide the matches by the number of fields to get the number of time slots, then multiply by the match length plus the changeover. The planner does this for you and shows when the last match ends.
